We welcome undergraduate participation in Niwot Ridge LTER science! Ways for undergraduates to get involved include field courses at the Mountain Research Station, independent research through the Research Experiences for Community College Students (RECCS) program, summer technician positions, and work in Niwot Ridge laboratories during the academic year.
Opportunities for Undergraduates
Field Courses at the Mountain Research Station
A diversity of field courses are offered at the CU Boulder Mountain Research Station. These courses, available year-round, offer hands-on experience in topics relevant to Niwot LTER science such as Winter Ecology, Mammalogy, Field Ornithology, Field Methods in Vegetation Ecology, and Lake & Stream Ecology.
Research Experience for Community College Students (RECCS)
The Niwot Ridge LTER offers a unique opportunity for undergraduates to gain field research experience through the RECCS program at the CU Boulder Center for Education, Engagement, and Evaluation (CIRES). The program provides undergraduate students from Colorado community colleges with a high quality independent research experience that includes exposure to a large, multidisciplinary research program and prepares students for the rigors of graduate school, professional research, and responsible citizenship.
Undergraduate Research Positions
Undergraduate students are an integral part of the education and research program of the Niwot Ridge LTER. The best time to find advertisements for volunteer and work positions is February through April, although laboratory positions may open up throughout the year. To get involved, contact a professor whose work you are interested in and follow our job postings in News and Events.
