Graduate student research and mentoring are fundamental to our mission

We welcome both University of Colorado and non-CU graduate research projects into the Niwot Ridge LTER program. Summer funding is available for CU graduate students, and logistical support (e.g., in the form of transportation, equipment use, data entry and processing) is available for all graduate students. Potential CU graduate students should apply for admission to the university through normal channels. Non-CU graduate students are encouraged to contact an appropriate Niwot Ridge LTER researcher.

Support for Graduate Student Research

We prioritize supporting LTER graduate research and synthesis efforts, encourage involvement of early- and mid-career researchers and foster engagement in broader impact activities. Each year, we support a dozen graduate students conducting LTER-related research on the ridge each summer, plus many more undergraduate student assistants.

Summer inquiry deadline is typically in early March.

All graduate students interested in keeping up with Niwot Ridge science and research opportunities should sign up for the Niwot Ridge email list-serve. The list-serve a vital tool for active Niwot Researchers to be involved and email information about meetings, resources, deadlines and collaborative opportunities. We now also have a graduate student-specific list-serv too!

To get added to the list-serves, please send an email to our list manager.

Join our slack channel

We encourage active researchers at Niwot to join our Slack channel. We use slack to communicate about ongoing projects and share meetings notes. It’s a great way to get caught up on any initiatives Niwot is currently working on.

Please email our Slack manager once you’ve set up an account and to be added to the group.
